Each year the Upper Elkhorn Natural Resources District awards three
scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the district. These are students who have chosen to pursue a career in a
field related to agriculture or natural resources.
This years recipients are Dillan Zuhlke of Plainview High School;
Katherine Kaup of Stuart High School; Michael Miller of Elgin Public High
School; and, alternate Derek Thiele of Clearwater High School.
Dillan Zuhlke is the son of Alden and Lisa Zuhlke of Brunswick. Dillan plans to attend the Northeast Community College where he will pursue a career in Agribusiness. The second scholarship recipient, Katherine Kaup, is the daughter of Arny and Marcia Kaup of Stuart. Katherine is planning to attend the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture where she plans to study Agribusiness Management Systems. And, the final scholarship recipient is Michael Miller, son of David and Ruth Miller of Oakdale. He is also planning to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and study Agricultural Sciences. The alternate scholarship winner for this year is Derek Thiele, son of Gary and Mary Thiele of Clearwater. Derek is planning to attend Northeast Community College and study Irrigation Technology. Scholarship winners will receive a scholarship in the amount of $500 to help defer costs during their first year of College. The Upper Elkhorn NRD would like to congratulate the 2008 Senior Scholarship Winners and wish them good luck in achieving their future goals.
